The 65,000 square foot Prairie Dale Middle School was constructed in 2009-2010. The site is located above the drinking water aquifer for the nearby Town of Winkler, MB that is located at a depth of 65' (20 m). The Town was concerned about the safety of the aquifer if vertical boreholes penetrated the aquifer because of the potential of leakage of surface water to the aquifer if the boreholes were not properly grouted or if there were a leak of antifreeze solution to the ground water. A horizontal, directionally drilled GHX was designed and constructed on the site to a depth of 16' (5 m) to avoid any potential problems.
