Neechi Commons is a food co-operative located in a pair of connected, renovated buildings. The renovated building is approximately 50,000 square feet (4,650 m2) and includes a grocery store, restaurant, aboriginal crafts store.
Minimizing energy cost was one of the prerequisites for the Co-op. The GCHP system with 24 vertical boreholes to a depth of 400' (122 m) in the parking area adjacent to the store helped achieve this goal. Waste heat from refrigerated display cases and walk-in coolers and freezers was used to balance the energy loads to and from the ground, and helped make the heating of the facility more efficient.
